As
heavy rainfall batters south China, flood emergency response teams have been
activated. Rescuers are going all out to protect residents and their
property. It is witnessing its highest rainfall since 1961, with severe
floods and landslides as a result of the downpours.
The flood control authority in south China's Pearl River basin activated a
Level-1 emergency response on Tuesday.
The response was taken to the highest level as escalating torrents on the
Beijiang and Xijiang, both main rivers of the basin, are expected to make water
levels continue to rise and remain high for some time, according to the
Ministry of Water Resources.
China has a four-tier flood-control emergency response system, with Level 1 being the most urgent and
severe.
