Jon,
The boreal forest stores more than 200 billion tons of carbon.1 In North America, the boreal serves as a breeding ground for nearly half of all bird species in the U.S. and Canada, and a refuge for caribou, lynx and other wildlife that have lost their habitat further south.2
March 21 is the International Day of Forests! Join Environment America Research & Policy Center for a day of action in support of our best natural climate solution: forests.
Each year, 1 million acres of the North American boreal forest are clear cut, releasing 26 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.3 Much of the boreal's trees are turned into toilet paper and other tissue products to be sold in the U.S.4
One of the largest tissue product retailers, Procter & Gamble (P&G), has failed to make adequate commitments to end deforestation and the degradation of intact forests. P&G has already taken some small steps thanks to people like you calling for forest protections.
But now it's time to amp up the pressure on P&G and ask for a big change. For the sake of our forests, climate and biodiversity -- we have no time left to lose.
Join us on March 21, the International Day of Forests, for our Day of Action. Register today.
Join people from across the country in signing our petition, posting on social media and writing letters to the editor. With enough voices, we'll convince P&G to stop sourcing wood pulp from the devastation of clear cuts in the North American boreal forest.
I hope to see you there,
