Over 777 million people in China fully vaccinated

August 13, 2021

China has seen a new outbreak of COVID-19 cases with officials scrambling to stop the outbreak from reaching 2020 levels.

So far, the Chinese mainland has recorded a total of 94,260 cases, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636.

A total of 777.046 million people in China have been fully vaccinated, said National Health Commission spokesperson Mi Feng at a press conference on Friday. That's more than half of the total population. More than 1.83 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across China as of Thursday.

CGTN spoke to Zoon Ahmed Khan on the steps China is taking to keep the outbreak under control.

More on the spread of COVID-19 in China:

  • China has provided the world with about 800 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to help people cope with the pandemic, especially those in developing countries
  • North China's Shanxi Province has started inoculating teenagers aged 15 to 17 against COVID-19 at the beginning of August. It aims to complete the administration of their first doses by the end of the month.
  • The heads of the company overseeing Nanjing airport are under investigation after the Nanjing Lukou International Airport saw an outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta variant last month that has since spread to over 20 cities around the country.
  • Central China's Zhengzhou, a city just recovering from devastating floods, has launched a third round of citywide nucleic acid testing to cope with the recent COVID-19 resurgence.
  • Pregnant women in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, can utilize green channels when undergoing testing amid the latest COVID-19 outbreak in the city.
Beijing opposes the politicization of origins studies

"China will continue to support efforts to trace the origins of COVID-19. We're actually implementing and will continue to practice relevant suggestions based on the China-WHO joint research report," said Ma Zhaoxu, China's deputy foreign minister at a news briefing Friday morning on the subject of tracing the origins of COVID-19.
