Upcoming REDD+ Learning Session: Climate, biodiversity, and reduced impact logging in the Peruvian Amazon

Dear all,

Please join us for the next WWF Forest and Climate online REDD+ Learning Session on October 30 at 10:00 EST/16:00 CET.

Topic: Climate, biodiversity, and reduced impact logging in the Peruvian Amazon

When: Wednesday, October 30 at 10:00 EST/16:00 CET

What: Despite the importance of long-term forest health for forest-dependent economies, poor logging practices are common across the tropics, producing greenhouse gas emissions and negatively impacting forest ecosystems and the biodiversity they support. Responsible forest management and certification have been promoted as tools to protect forest ecosystems and their resources. To verify those claims, and to effectively to tackle the emissions and biodiversity loss from logging, it is important to assess the actual impacts of certification and the potential climate benefits of reduced-impact logging.

In this learning session, Dr. Rosa Goodman, Assistant Professor at the Dept. Forest Ecology and Management of Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and Vania Tejeda, Biodiversity Officer at WWF-Perú, will present recent scientific studies on the emissions and biodiversity impacts of conventional and reduced impact logging in the Peruvian Amazon, and share recommendations for forest managers and policymakers on improving the conservation outcomes of responsible forest management.

A Q&A will follow this presentation.

This is a free and open event. Please help us spread the word by sharing this announcement with any contacts who may be interested.

Best,
Emelin
