21 Days to Love: Do you know your neighbor?

Dear Jon,
No Violence
Every day, in broader society, we see examples of violence.
Some obvious examples of normalized violence are body shaming, ageism, and racism.
Invisible violence, however, is fear of speaking to people we don’t know. We learn to ignore one another during our daily routines.
Minding our business and avoiding strangers can make us feel safer and support our sense that we are protecting ourselves, but we are also creating an isolation that we may not be aware of.
This isolation creeps in on our communities a little at a time until the war economy’s grip is so strong that we don’t even know our neighbors. This separation makes it virtually impossible to be there for one another in times of need.
Isolation and separation lead to depression, loneliness, stress, and many other diseases we attribute to what we’re eating or how much exercise we do or don’t do.
Isolation and separation are also examples of normalized violence. Humans are social beings and we need one another.
Today, think of the ways that violence is normalized in your world, in your community and culture.
Think of the ways that you may participate.
Think about what is at risk for you if you choose to make a change.
Write down the steps you can take to pull yourself closer to love.
💖 Love and Respect,
Jodie & Kelly
