10 Keys to Slashing Deforestation in Just Two Years

Dear Colleagues;

It’s now three years since dozens of consumer-facing companies signed the New York Declaration on Forests, which included a commitment to purge deforestation from the from the supply chains of beefsoypalm oil and pulp & paper by 2020 – or just two short years from now. Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 market the three-year anniversary by publishing a list of 10 key activities that can be scaled up or accelerated to achieve that goal.

Their report, “Commodities and Forests Agenda 2020”, should be ready by people far beyond our forest-friendly echo chamber, and I’ve created some content that I hope will help proselytize beyond the converted.

The first is Episode 22 of the Bionic Planet podcast, which is called “How to Purge Deforestation From Soy, Palm, Cattle, and Pulp & Paper by 2020”. I adapted this episode from the launch event, which featured speakers from environmental NGOs, multinational corporations, and governmental organizations. I then adapted the podcast into an article on Ecosystem Marketplace called “10 Keys To Slashing Deforestation In Just Two Years”. I will also upload the launch event in its entirety for episode 23.

Bionic Planet is available at Bionic-Planet.com, and also through iTunesTuneInStitcher, or wherever you access podcasts.

The piece dovetails with an earlier episode called “Brazil and Indonesia: Connecting the Climate Dots”, which focuses exclusively on efforts to slow deforestation in these two countries. That piece was also adapted into a piece for Ecosystem Marketplace called “How Brazil And Indonesia Can Meet The Climate Challenge”.

Enjoy! And feedback is always welcome.
