Meet a Beautiful Beetle That Loves to Eat Poop

The next time you find yourself walking in a field and come across a big, smelly pile of bison poop, don't be so quick to plug your nose and rush away. As gross as it may sound, taking a peek underneath might reveal something shiny and beautiful hiding below the mound!

At least that's what I learned from watching entomologist Dr. Frank Krell, who studies rainbow scarabs on the plains of Colorado. See how he finds these vibrant, metallic dung beetles, and hear why they're essential to the health of the ecosystem (1:36).
