Last weekend, in Can Tho, a consultancy
workshop named “Mitigating waste and increasing its value in low carbon rice
production was organized. The workshop was held by Netherlands Development Organization
in the framework “Network and Climate Technology Center” of the United Nations
Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The workshop focused on discussing evaluation
tools of technology for helping husking mills optimize the value of husk and
give sustainable business models for the options. Rice production is growing
more and more in Viet Nam due to the expansion of cultivation area and
productivity. The situation requires a cost-effective solutions on using rice
by-products including rice husk and opens up great potential for fuel and
energy companies from excess rice husks. Netherlands Development Organization’s
Mr. Bastiaan Teune said that most of the biomass researches in Viet Nam are
theoretically or technically focused. This approach is considered insufficient.
With this project, we aim to improve the value chain of rice husks and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions through rice husk pricing tools to support the
investment decision process. " At the workshop, the scientists provided
analysis and optimal options for some milling enterprises. Tools include
technical, economic criteria and sustainability from raw material to processing
and final production. The aim of the project is to explore different
technologies to increase the value of rice husks to reduce waste and to assist
in improving the economic efficiency of milling plants while minimizing
greenhouse gas emissions.
