The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development (MARD) in coordination with UNICEF launched 2017 National Week of
Clean Water and Environment Sanitation with theme: "Clean Water and
Environment Sanitation for Children’s Comprehensive Development" at Dong
Phuong Yen Primary School, Dong Phuong Yen Commune, Chuong My District, Ha Noi
on April 25th. During the past years, through the national target programme on
clean water and rural sanitation in the 2000-2015 period, clean water supply for
schools and clinics has gained outstanding achievements. As of 2016, the rate
of rural people granted safe water and sanitation reached 91.5%, in which,
nearly 49% used water meeting standard 02:2009/BYT; 90% of rural households had
latrines, 67% had hygienic latrines; 93% of schools had water supply and
sanitation facilities. With the above-mentioned theme, the programme aims at
calling organisations and individuals to join hands on environment protection,
thrifty and efficient use of water resources; encourage best personal hygiene
practices to minimize negative impacts of climate change and disaster risks to
children's health in particular and community's health in general; synchronously
develop and improve sustainable clean water supply and rural environment
sanitation nationwide.
