COP30: One week to go – people in, polluters out

November 3, 2025

COP30

One week to COP30

Dear Jon,

In just one week, world leaders will gather in Belém, Brazil for COP30 - a critical moment to turn climate commitments into real action.

We will be there, working with partners and allies to make this summit a turning point – people in, polluters out.

Here’s how we’re driving change at COP30:

· Holding polluters accountable: Our research with the Kick Big Polluters Out coalition continues to expose how fossil fuel lobbyists shape climate talks - and we’re demanding full transparency and tougher rules.

· Championing defenders: We’re helping to ensure that land and environmental defenders are recognised, protected and have a seat at the table. Our advocacy is helping ensure defenders’ protection is recognised in the Paris Agreement’s Global Stocktake for the first time.

· Backing grassroots leadership: We are supporting the Grassroots Organisations for Climate Movement, a coalition of Indigenous and traditional communities, activists and local groups across the Amazon. Together, they are building a permanent events venue in central Belém, a hub for dialogue, coordination and resistance beyond the official zones.

· Pushing for policy change: From stronger disclosure rules on fossil fuel lobbyists to advancing fair participation in negotiations, we’re making sure decision-makers hear one clear message: people in, polluters out.

· Protecting forests: With COP30 taking place in the Amazon, we’re calling for regulation to stop banks and investors from financing deforestation - and to ensure that new climate finance mechanisms truly protect nature.

· Launching lasting change: In Belém, we’re supporting the launch of LEAD - the Leaders Network for Environmental Activists and Defenders, a new global platform to put defenders at the heart of climate decision-making.

With your support, we’re shifting the balance of power away from polluters and towards the people protecting our planet.
