Watching cherry blossoms is
fast becoming a must-do cultural activity for young and
old people in Beijing this spring. The surging demand for watching cherry
blossoms flower has also triggered a boom in related cultural and creative
products.
Spring has also officially arrived in Washington D.C. and the Cherry Blossom Festival is in full swing. The city's 2,500 cherry blossoms, known as 'sakura' in Japan, commemorate a 1912 gift of cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the nation's capital. Two of these trees still stand at the National Mall.
