At the invitation of Russian
President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to
Russia from March 20 to 22.
It was Xi's first foreign trip since being
elected as Chinese president earlier this month.
It was also his ninth visit to Russia as Chinese president.
The Russian side has repeatedly said that Xi’s choosing Russia as his first foreign
visit destination
following his re-election as Chinese president fully reflects the special
nature of Russia-China relations in the new era and has historical significance
for the future development of the bilateral relationship, said Chinese FM Qin
Gang.
Russian President Vladimir Putin
said: "Dear Chairman, dear friend, welcome to Russia,
to Moscow. I'm glad to have an opportunity, now in person, to congratulate you
on re-election as the leader of China. It became possible as the people of
China and its representatives saw value in your effort over the last
decade."
What
happened during the visit:
· During the visit, Xi and Putin signed
the Joint Statement of
the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Deepening the
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination for the New Era, and a
Joint Statement of the President of the People’s Republic of China and the
President of the Russian Federation on Pre-2030 Development Plan on
Priorities in China-Russia Economic Cooperation, making plans and
arrangements for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation in
various fields in the next stage
· The two sides signed a number of bilateral cooperation documents in
the fields of agriculture, forestry, basic science, market oversight and media
· Both countries reiterated that they will
continue to support each other on issues involving each other’s core interests
and jointly resist attempts of interference by external forces in internal
affairs, said Chinese FM Qin Gang
· Regarding the Ukraine conflict,
Chinese President Xi Jinping said China has all along abided by the
purposes and principles of the UN Charter, followed an objective and impartial
position, and actively encouraged peace talks
