China will stay 'on highest alert' amid COVID-19

The COVID-19 situation in mainland China is far from better. The Chinese mainland reported more than 5,600 new local COVID-19 infections on Friday. 

Shanghai remains the hardest hit city, with more than 5,400 new cases, the highest number in a single day since the city went under closed-off management earlier this month. Shanghai has also seen more than 9,500 asymptomatic infections and 52 new deaths.

China National Immigration Administration (NIA) said Wednesday that it will continue to stay "on the highest alert" and not sway on cross-border management policies in light of the current COVID situation.
