5 reasons to smile in these times of hardship

Dear Jon,

The year is almost halfway through (how did THAT happen!?) and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s been a tough one so far. People around the world are in difficult times, and some days the news is just too much to take in. We were all hoping for something better than this!

But... that’s not why I’m writing.

Today I want to take a moment to share some reasons to celebrate even in the face of so much hardship.

Through all the dark days of the past 6 months, the Blue Dragon kids have continued to shine. And with amazing support from people just like you, the team here in Vietnam has still been able to do some great work for children in crisis.

Here are just a few highlights of the year so far:

  1. Blue Dragon’s rescue team has brought home 20 Vietnamese girls and women from China.
  2. We’ve provided intensive care and assistance to an additional 31 girls and women who were rescued from slavery by the Chinese police and handed across the border.
(That’s a total of 51 people set free, including 14 girls aged under 18. All are now home with their families).
  3. We’ve represented 6 survivors of trafficking in 5 different court cases, including our first-ever ‘historical case’ for a woman who was trafficked and escaped 17 years ago. Every case has resulted in traffickers going to prison.
  4. The Street Outreach team has met 86 homeless children in these first 6 months, and helped each one with food, shelter, and the chance to return to their families. Twelve of these homeless children are aged under 6 years old.
  5. Just last week, we launched a law reform project to mandate ‘child-friendly’ procedures for police when working with children who are victims of crime, or suspected of committing a crime.

I could go on… but you can see from just these 5 achievements how much can be done despite the overwhelming odds.

Jon, thank you for believing in the rights of children to rise above their circumstances and have a decent chance at life.

If you would like to make a contribution to this important work, a donation of any amount will help children who are in need of rescue and protection. You can donate right here.

Thanks again, Jon. Even though 2020 has not been kind to us so far, we still hope for better days to come!

Sincerely,
