ALO - Solo Exhibition by artist Chinh Le

Chinh Le
ALO
Solo Exhibition
 03 Nov to 02 Dec 2019
Art Vietnam Salon Gallery

Art Vietnam Gallery is honored to once again exhibit the soulful, contemplative works of our artist Chinh Le, well established and known for her expressions of Zen Buddhist philosophy about the nature of life.

Chinh Le's first exhibition with Art Vietnam gallery in 2005, A Season, was a body of lacquer works that reflected the seasons of nature accompanied by bronze sculptures embodying the daily activities of all humans as we pass through the journey of life.

The artist's 2008 exhibition Emotion featured a series of silk scrolls depicting Zen Buddhist monks exemplifying Zen poems of the nature and philosophy of life, each scroll accompanied by a physical manifestation of the figures in the paintings cast in bronze.

2016's Mid Autumn Night exhibition was composed of a series of oil paintings reflecting the four seasons, the 12 zodiac animals cast in bronze with their accompanying bronze masks, all sitting under a luminous bronze Mid Autumn moon presided over by the Zen Buddhist Master Monk. The festivities of the Mid Autumn Festival with moon cakes, fruits and offerings completed the festive honoring of the season.

ALO continues with this exploration of the meaning of life and its cyclical nature as Chinh Le ponders her emotions and inspiration for the autumn years of her life as she turns 50. The works present a departure in medium from the artist's previous exhibitions in that she composes the paintings on a computer, cutting and making collages of images to create new stories.
As the artist muses, "I want the title of the show to be: ALO (a - lo/ hello in Vietnamese) to bring to the people the feeling of communicating with modern technology and transferring the message of our modern life."

The meaning of the paintings from the self to non-self is inspired by the poem, My Perception of Life, (Cuoc doi qua mat toi) by the Zen monk Thich Thanh Tu, espousing the philosophy of unlimited space and time.

A body of 20 bronze sculptures present the relaxing positions of the artist's age and 10 bronze works of various fruits and flowers accompany the figures, symbolizing all the various stages of life as it changes like the autumn leaves change their color from green to yellow.

This is a grand celebration of life, of the artist embarking on the autumn season of her life. It is also an honoring of her father (the celebrated sculptor Nguyen Hai) on his death anniversary, a tender tribute of love for the precious gift of her life.

We invite you to come and celebrate art, the love of life, and the honoring of all those who came before us, leading us on our path to wisdom and freedom.
