Over 200 years ago, civilisation faced a shocking natural disaster.
In 1815, Mount Tambora erupted in Indonesia - the most powerful volcanic eruption in human history. The initial blast was devastating, killing thousands, and, over the following days, the ash that was hurled into the atmosphere spread around the globe, blocking out sunlight.
Temperatures dropped. Seasons shifted. And in 1816, the world experienced what came to be known as the Year Without a Summer.
Crops failed across Europe, North America, and beyond. There was widespread famine. Food prices soared. Communities suffered - all because nature’s delicate balance had been thrown into chaos.
It was a stark reminder: without agriculture, civilisation cannot stand.
But now a different nightmare is unfolding. Before our very eyes.
This time there’s no eruption. No ash cloud. No darkened skies.
Just silence - where there was once buzzing.
The pollinators are disappearing.
And while the birds, beetles, flies and butterflies vanishing from view might not have the dramatic boom of an erupting volcano, the disastrous consequences could be up there, with suffering beyond comprehension.
We need to save them.
And you, along with a few others like you, are making that happen.
Through your donations, you’re protecting meadows, changing farming, and stopping bees being burnt alive. And you’re doing it across continents as diverse as the pollinators themselves.
There might not be history books written about it, but - if we can save these wonderful little creatures - it might well be the most important thing you and I help achieve.
Because if you save the pollinators, you save the world.
Wild pollinators are at the very core of our survival. If everyone reading this donates just $3, we could keep protecting pollinators around the world, ultimately helping to keep them - and us - alive. Thank you.
